The Manchester debut from the record label and event series Scorpio Red. Featuring DJ and live sets from Ashley Holmes, Zeynep Ağcabay, Kelman Duran and Ans M.
Ashley Holmes is an artist, DJ and broadcaster working with sound and collaborative projects to produce work for exhibitions, performance and radio. He hosts Tough Matter, a monthly show on NTS Radio and is a resident on Mondo Radio and at No Bounds Festival, Sheffield. He is influenced by the experimentation, social and historical relational knowledges of the Blues, Dub, Grime music. Recent projects and performances have explored the stripped-back, melancholic spaces between these genres and the culture of bootlegs, riddims, versions and covers to amplify frequencies, voice and memory.
Born and raised in Istanbul, Zeynep Ağcabay’s music explores the juxtaposition of Eastern and Western influences on their identity. Growing up with traditional Turkish music playing at home, Zeynep went on to discover new roots in London. Her experimental approach aims to discover a unique blend of these two sonic worlds by composing unusual structures of abstract percussions, ambiguous vocals, ambient soundscapes mixed in with instruments inspired by her heritage. Zeynep’s First EP ‘Ancestral Ground’ was released in the summer of 2023 on Archaic Vaults. Her second EP is forthcoming on on Scorpio Red.
Kelman Duran is a Dominican producer, composer and visual artist known for his expansive soundscapes and dembow and reggaeton infusions. Emerging as fixture of LA’s underground RAIL UP crew, he has since released through HUNDEBISS Records in Milan, and Riobamba’s Apocalipsis label. He co-runs both Scorpio Red and an LA based ambient, experimental and avant-garde series focused on BIPOC artists called Deluge. While he sees his music as a purely emotional counterpart to his visual arts and film work, his artistic and scholarly interests focus on issues of racism, police brutality, and the interplay between disenfranchised groups and civil architecture.
Ans M is an artist and DJ whose work weaves between organic ambient soundscapes and distorted club mutations. She co-runs Scorpio Red alongside Kelman Duran.
